Q. Am I eligible to take the PMP examination? 

A. The following are the basic eligibility criteria for the PMP Certification

Educational Background

Project Management Experience

Project Management Education

Secondary degree (high school diploma, associate’s degree or global equivalent)

Minimum five years/60 months unique non-overlapping professional project management experience during which at least 7,500 hours were spent leading and directing the project*

35 contact hours of formal education

OR

 

 

Four-year degree (bachelor’s degree or global equivalent)

Minimum three years/36 months unique non-overlapping professional project management experience during which at least 4,500 hours were spent leading and directing the project*

35 contact hours of formal education

*Leading and directing the project is identified with the tasks, knowledge, and skills which are specific in the Project Management Professional Examination Content Outline.

You should have experience in all five process groups across all your project management experience which is submitted on the application. However, on a single project, you do not need to have experience in all five process groups.

All project management experience must have been accrued within the last eight consecutive years prior to your application submission.

 

Q: What is PMI and how is it related to the PMP certification?

A: PMI is the world’s largest not-for-profit membership association for the project management profession. PMI’s professional resources and research empower more than 700,000 members, credential holders and volunteers in nearly every country in the world. PMI is the apex certification body for the PMP Credential.

 

Q: What is the format of the PMP Certification Exam?

A: The PMP Certification exam is typically conducted in the Computer-based testing (CBT) mode at Prometric CBT centers located across the world. The exam is of about 4-hour duration and consists of 200 multiple-choice questions. Out of these 200 questions, 175 questions are scored and considered towards final score calculation, while the remaining 25 questions are pretest questions that are not scored.
