    As an Instructional Designer, I tend to look at courses a bit different so please take that into account when reading this comment. For me, being completely new to ITIL, some of the chapters were very long with little activity or testing between all the knowledge being dumped into my brain. I was wishing there were smaller test or quiz modules appearing more frequently. An example, at the top of the "next" page in some of these longer chapters, there's a few notes about "think what you've learned". Instead of that, I'd really like to see a quick quiz there or a knowledge check. Reviewing on such a big topic without structure was ineffective for me. I did however pass my ITIL4 Foundations and I am very pleased! I found the use of flash cards I created extremely useful.

If you have started your journey in ITIL V3, do not worry if your certifications will become obsolete. ITIL V3 continues as a credible IT certification, and the exams are available until a further announcement from AXELOS. It is expected that ITIL V3 will be relevant until mid-June 2020.

If you have only completed your ITIL v3 Foundation course, it is recommended that you take up an ITIL 4 Foundation course. This ensures a smooth transition to the new certification scheme and also, there are a lot of new focus areas and materials in ITIL 4 which is assessed in the new ITIL 4 exam.

If you have already accumulated 17 credits in the ITIL V3 certification scheme, then you are eligible to take the ITIL Managing Professional Transition Module that will help you to change to ITIL 4 certification scheme.
 
If you do not have 17 credits, then you can continue in the V3 certification scheme until you accumulate your 17 credits or start fresh from the ITIL 4 Foundation course.

The ITIL 4 Certification scheme has 5 levels. 
  • ITIL Foundation
  • ITIL Specialist (3 Modules), 
  • ITIL Strategist, 
  • ITIL Leader, and
  • ITIL Master.

There are two designation streams under ITIL 4 that one can follow. ITIL Managing Professional (ITIL MP) and ITIL Strategic Leader (ITIL SL). One can choose the desired designation based on his learning and career plan.

The ITIL 4 Foundation has been launched on 28th February 2019. The other levels are scheduled as per the below timelines.
  • ITIL 4 Managing Professional Transition Module - 3 October 2019.
  • ITIL 4 Managing Professional Modules (ITIL 4 Specialist: Create, Deliver and Support, and ITIL 4 Strategist: Direct, Plan and Improve) - November 2019
  • ITIL 4 Managing Professional Modules (ITIL 4 Specialist: Drive Stakeholder Value, ITIL 4 Specialist: High Velocity IT) - Q1 2020
  • ITIL 4 Strategic Leader Module - more information to be released in the second half of 2019.

The ITIL 4 Foundation level is designed as an introduction to ITIL 4 and enables candidates to look at IT service management through a BRAND NEW end-to-end operating model for the creation, delivery and continual improvement of tech-enabled products and services. Once you have passed your Foundation exam, you become eligible for all the other ITIL courses.

On successful completion of the training, participants can schedule their ITIL 4 exam by using the exam voucher. The exam is conducted by PEOPLECERT, and the certification is maintained by them. The exam is a closed book and has a rigorous assessment process. Participants need to achieve a minimum pass percentage (65% for ITIL 4 Foundation) to be certified.

  • Duration: 1 hour (60 minutes)
  • Exam format: Objective Test Questions (OTQs)
  • Passing Score: 65% ( 26 out of 40 questions)
If a candidate is taking the exam in a non-native or working language, they may be awarded 25% extra time ( i.e., 75 minutes in total)

There are no mandatory prerequisites to attend the training or ITIL 4 Foundation exam. A basic understanding of Service Management concepts is helpful.
 
ITIL 4 Foundations certification is in itself a prerequisite for other levels in the ITIL 4 certification scheme.

This course is suitable for individuals in the IT profession and business students who intend to kickstart service management careers. To broadly categorize:
  • ITSM professionals or aspiring ITSM professionals.
  • IT professionals (digital, product, developers) who are involved in service delivery.
  • Existing ITIL qualification holders who wish to upgrade the knowledge.
