There’re two ways in which you can book an ITIL Foundation cert. exam - directly on PeopleCert’s website (www.peoplecert.org), and via your accredited training course provider. If you go for the former option (booking an exam with PeopleCert), you’ll need to opt for either an online proctored test or a computer-based test at a Pearson Vue test center. Getting the exam booked by your course provider instead opens up another testing mode - the old-school pen and paper test.

You can buy an online proctored ITIL foundation exam voucher on PeopleCert’s website for US $314 if you’re in the US or Canada. The exam fee does vary by country though - if you’re in the United Kingdom your exam fee would be £269 instead. The exam fee is based on the country you’d take up the certification exam in - so forget about booking your exam from a lower fee country and taking it up in your home country. If you want to book a computer-based test with Pearson Vue, please bear in mind that you’ll be
spending a little more than a PeopleCert exam. As an example, the ITIL Foundation exam fee for US candidates is currently US $383.90, around US $70 more than the PeopleCert exam fee. Another point to note - Pearson Vue provides only 2 language options for the certification exam - English and Japanese - unlike the 20 language options available with PeopleCert.

The most affordable option for your ITIL foundation certification?

Check with your training course provider - in all probabilities, they’ll give you a better deal on the cert. exam than either PeopleCert or Pearson Vue. This is so because official ITIL training can be offered only by PeopleCert Accredited Training Organizations (ATOs). Almost all ATOs get discounted prices from PeopleCert for ITIL exams, and most of them usually pass on at least a portion of this benefit to their customers. This means that if you take up an ITIL foundation exam voucher as part of your ITIL Foundation course from an ATO, you would end up saving some money on the entire package. What happens if you fail your ITIL Foundation exam?
