CMDB Goals, Benefits and Effect in relation to Key Stakeholders

The last job in this stage is to evaluate and enhance your advantages with key project sponsors. Provide the list of advantages to key team members for their feedbacks and ideas. You should have previously discussed with key process and service owners in the formulation of objectives and the description of benefits and effect. Now is the phase to have them analyze the full set of resources you have implemented, and to ask for their support. Your CMDB based project will benefit them, so make sure they settle down on the objectives and logic that lead to effects and benefits.

Key service and process owners need to:

  • Feel ownership of the objectives
  • Settle down on your logic that associates precise benefits and effect
  • Buy into the changes that will allow attaining goals

Keep in mind that a practical stakeholder may approve all the objectives, benefits, and effect, but not have the resource backup to order the changes needed to attain the results for his or her team.
Include any other team member who will be influenced or affected by the CMDB when it is deployed.

Analyze the idea and feedback as you have them. To decrease the probabilities of conflict later in this project, communicate with all of the users — particularly those who did not provide any feedbacks or input.

For each objective you should complete an impact estimation & analyze that recognizes the objectives, the hard and soft benefits, and the effect, as follows:

Goals

Offer correct statistics on configurations and their credentials to support all other service management practices.

Benefits

  • Hard benefits: develop process alignment, decision making, communication and agreement
  • Hard benefits: Results in lesser unsuccessful changes, more accessibility, decreased incident rate, and increased first-fix rate
  • Soft benefit: increased client gratification
Impact

  • 30% budget savings as a result of decrease in unsuccessful changes; 20% cost savings as a result of better accessibility; 35% decrease in incidents; 40% expense savings due to incidents resolved by 1st level support team
  • IT alleged as allowing and facilitating business

This job is important, because the whole assignment could sink or swim right here. After the project group analyses these remarks, you should add the benefits as appropriate. Then get back to map the objectives to the revised benefits and effect. You should continue this process until you can obviously express how the associated processes that rely on the CMDB will change.

Fix meetings with the top organizational staff and the project stakeholders, and show the details in a perfect and crisp manner. Do not try to over-sell your instance. Recommend it, without losing sight of your objectives, but if the case is solid the details should be sufficient. Assume some level of denial, and also assume to re-evaluate some of your benefits.

Summary

While you endorse the benefits of a CMDB project in this stage, you are likely to deliver those benefits by the time the project completes. Be cautious. Don’t overstate your instance and ask excuses later by promising benefits that are not genuine or likely to be realized.
