Activities of Directing a Project Process in PRINCE2 includes the following:

  • Authorize to initiation

  • Authorize the project

  • Authorize a Stage or Exception plan

  • Authorize project closure

  • Rise Initiation

Authorize to initiation:

Projects take time and money to initiate. The activities for initiation should be planned, monitored and controlled. The Project Board activity to authorize initiation ensures that such investment is worthwhile. Once a request to initiate the project is received from starting up a project the project board must decide whether to allow the project to proceed to the initiation stage.

Authorize the project:

This activity will be triggered by request from the project manager for an authorization to deliver the project and should perform in parallel with authorizing a stage or an Exception plan. The Objective of all to rising the project is to decide whether to precede with the rest of the project. When this Authorize activity takes place we may have the project initiation documentation and the benefits review plan. The activity is triggered by a request to deliver a project and then what the board is going to do is to review and approve the project initiation documentation. When the project board authorize a project, they will approve the project initiation documentation and the benefits review plan. However, if the project is not authorized by the project board then it will be prematurely closed and in that case they will issue a premature close notification.

Authorize the stage or exception plan:

In this case, the project board will either be Approving an Exception plan or Approving a Stage plan. When the project board is reviewing the current stage if there has been a handover or approval of special as products that approval will normally be confirmed as part of this. The purpose of the directing a project process is to enable the project board to be accountable for the project's success by making key decisions and exercising overall control while delegating day-to-day management of the project to the Project Manager.

In many ways directing a project is the essential process for PRINCE2. Because this process is used by the project board to direct the project. The project manager basically look for managing product delivery. Project board will only need to get involved in the case of exceptions. For each of those activities within directing a project there are some inputs and outputs. We have a project to rise Asia notification and the closure notification and these are some of the ways in which the project board keep corporate or program management informed on what is happening. Beneath directing a project process, we have many inputs and outputs some of them are associated with exceptions, some of them are associated with all to raise the nations and some of them deliver advices or decisions that aren't given or made by the project board which will trigger closing a project process and gently speak from closing a project process of closure recommendation within directing a project. Rise a stage or exception plan:

Approval of stage plan occurs at the end of every management stage. If an exception has occurred during the stage the project board may request the project manager to produce an exception plan for project board approval.

Authorize project closure:

Authorizing closure of the project is the last activity undertaken by the project board. Prior to its own disbandment and may require endorsement from corporate or program management. The closure recommendation is received and the project board will review the project initiation documentation, compare it with the original, review the updated business case and they will review the end project report that is provided to them by the project manager, approve the project report, approves the updated business case, approves the benefits review plan and then it will issue a closure notification.
